Didi de Vries

Coordinator and Chef

Didi started meditating at the SITA Winter Retreat in 2013. At that point she worked in the kitchen as an assistant and she never stopped treating veggies well: now she is one of the chefs cooking delicious food for up to hundred participants per retreat.

Didi likes to do fun things. This includes hiking, walking the dog, acting, reading, listening, collecting walnuts and chestnuts in the forest, cooking and conserving food. Her profession is pretty fun too; she works in a museum and as a science journalist she is able to ask hundreds of questions without having to answer any herself. To have a bit variety in her working days, she organizes events too.

“My first meditation session was during the Winter Youth Retreat in 2013. I wasn’t sure what to expect and it felt safe to be kitchen crew so I could have some time off wandering off while chopping veggies. After the first explanation of Karl I figured cooking and meditating easily go hand in hand. Ever since, I keep coming back. Over the years I experience that meditation works best for me in public spaces. When I’m waiting for a train or sitting inside it, in a park on a bench or in the grass, while walking in the forest or while waiting at a traffic light (I noticed you don’t necessarily have to walk when the light is green).”
